Step 1    Listen to the poem If I could touch the sky at starfall.com.  What do you notice about the poem's structure? What do you notice about the reader's accent? Discuss with your partner.

Step 2   Practise saying the poem.

Step 3   Look at what might make studying this poem easy or difficult (obstacles et éléments facilitateurs).

Step 4  How could you the poem fit in with the rest of the curriculum?

Step 1    Read the story in English for yourself and listen to it online or on CD / or alternatively, watch the DVD (see Oxford English Video, Cathy Lawday and Richard MacAndrew).

Step 2  See how the French version Boucle d'Or is used in Modern Foreign Language teaching in England. Find extra prep files here.

Step 3  Construct a coherent and gradual teaching unit, making sure that the children practise telling parts of the story and that they have a communicative / creative task to do in each lesson. One of the main tasks might be :
  • acting out the story to another class
  • recording parts of the story
  • making masks / posters / paintings of the characters
  • playing a team game based on the story

A compilation of very useful pages and key links to help you with phonetics and phonology, by our colleagues from Montpellier. Theory and practice for teachers and pupils alike. Just brilliant.
